Next: DXPLUS: A New Public Login Unix Service
Previous: Summertime Change
Judy Richards CN/DCI
As announced early this year the DXCERN Ultrix service will be
stopped, after many years of faithful service, when CERN closes for
Christmas on December 20th 1996. Alternative arrangements are being
made for the small number of users who have informed us of their
dependence on utilities that only run under Ultrix.
Users who have not already obtained an account on one of the
alternative public Unix services, should do so as soon as possible.
- Users with no specific needs should get an account on the IBM/Aix
based CERNSP service.
- Users who have collaborators working on HP
systems (LEP experiments, some parts of the accelerator divisions)
can get an account on HPPLUS.
- Users who have a need for specific Digital
based facilities can get an account on DXPLUS, but note that this
service is running Digital Unix/OSF, not Ultrix, and it is not
binary compatibility with dxcern.
Watch the news and dxcern login message for more information if you
need help to move your files and email elsewhere.
