DECdns Name Service
The Phase V Name Service is similar to the IP DNS, since it is distributed across the network, rather than being based on local host tables. Each country/site is responsible for entering the data for their nodes. CERN has been running a Phase V Name Service in production since early 1993. Whenever DECnet node numbers are allocated or changed at CERN, the Phase V name server is updated in parallel with the Phase IV NCP master copy of nodes on VXCRNA. Most other countries have also entered their nodes and the HEP namespace, called OMNI, is expected to be complete in the coming months.
