At the time of publication of this Computer NewsLetter, there will be fewer than 110 days left before CERNVM ends on June 30, 1996. One immediate and critical question that CERNVM users must ask themselves is:
How do I to move my mail away from CERNVM?
We hope that, with this issue of the CNL (222) - labelled ``Migration Special - Mail Issues'' - we will answer most of the questions users may have concerning this mail migration phase, which, unfortunately, cannot be processed automatically: users must choose first the machine on which they would like to process their mail in the future, and then the mail system they prefer to use; the mail migration process will depend on that. As you will see all the questions related to Mail are grouped in a special and separate chapter (Chapter 3, ``Mail Issues'').
As we think that many people are concerned about these questions, it has been decided, by the CN management, to distribute exceptionally the paper version of this and the next CNL to a larger audience than usual inside CERN, i.e. taking the existing lists of registered users plus the distribution scheme used for the ``Weekly Bulletin''. For this reason we will not yet use, for these issues, the new lists (CERN internal or outside users) for the paper version distribution. However, for the future, please note that it is still possible to register (or to cancel your registration) by filling in the form at URL:
Finally, and still because of the official shutdown of CERNVM taking place at the end of June, we would like the next CNL (223) (which will contain a repetition of the most important messages, but also the very latest and up-to-date information) to appear on the users desks not later than the beginning of June. Therefore, we have decided to fix the deadline for contributions a little earlier than usual. We would like the contributors to take note of this deadline:
Wednesday 8th May
and I thank them in advance for respecting this date in order to fulfil the requirement of having the CNL 223 printed by the end of May.
